My
sister got married on Saturday, the 17th. It was a nice enough ceremony. Our other two brothers and I were ushers, or as I thought of it, “crowd control.”
It was an eventful couple of days, beginning with the rehearsal Friday night. The pastor made a comment Friday night about how sometimes the ceremony can be delayed by bridesmaids taking a little too long to get ready. Well, he was partly right. The ceremony was delayed due to somebody not being quite ready, but it was the pastor himself. He had forgotten his sport coat, so the entire procession had to wait until his son delivered it to the church. The ceremony itself went smoothly after that, though.
The reception and dance were fun. Great food, and free. I’m all about free food. Lots of people, all having a great time. It took a while for the dance floor to fill up, because the deejay was playing some lame stuff at first, but once everything got going, the floor was packed. I only danced once though, with my sis during the dollar dance.
One good thing about all of this, if I hadn’t lost my job at the paper, I would have had to work Saturday. That would have sucked, so at least I was able to enjoy the day.
The reception was held at an area bar, in their party rental room. I was returning from the restroom and walking through the bar area when I ran into a friend of mine I hadn’t seen in 5 years or so. We spent a few minutes catching each other up on our lives, and exchanged our updated phone numbers. That was a cool bonus to the days’ festivities.
I finally had to leave around 2230 so I could get home and tend to
Bella, who had been locked up in her kennel for almost 12 hours by that point. I got home around 2300, which is about the time I would have arrived home from the paper route. Weird coincidence. What was even weirder was that during the entire evening, I only had one glass of cola, maybe 3 cigarettes, and I still felt hung over when I got up on Sunday morning.
Anyway, congratulations to the bride and groom, I hope you have a long and great life together.
